Patrick Macnamara
Founder & CEO
Patrick Macnamara founded Terrier Agency and leads it as CEO. He has worked in search for 15 years. SEO is his specialism, and he sets the approach on the accounts he runs.
Patrick covers the UK and Ireland. The two markets share a search ecosystem but not a competitor set, and he plans each campaign against the results pages the client actually competes in rather than a single national template.
His client work includes Sons, Gtechniq and Official London Theatre. On accounts like these the work runs the full width of organic search. Technical foundations come first, so that pages can be crawled, indexed and rendered without obstruction. Site structure comes next, so that commercial pages and the supporting content around them sit in a hierarchy a search engine can read. The content programme and the links that make rankings hold follow from there.
Patrick’s role is strategy and direction rather than production. He decides what a campaign is trying to win, which pages carry the commercial weight, and what the agency reports back each month. He is the person clients speak to when priorities change.
He founded Terrier Agency in 2015 and also founded its sister company Bark Social, which handles influencer marketing. Running both means the SEO and influencer sides of a brief can be planned together instead of being bolted on afterwards.
Patrick’s background is agency side. He was Head of Strategy at The Gate Films, working with brands including Missguided, the University of Manchester and The Independent, and before that spent nearly four years at CheethamBell JWT in Manchester, moving from Digital Account Executive to Senior Digital Strategist across clients including PriceRunner, Baxters and Total Fitness. He holds an MSc in Film Studies from the University of Edinburgh and a BSc in Multimedia from Dublin City University.
Terrier works on a rolling basis with no minimum term and 60 days’ notice at any point. Patrick’s view is that an agency should be held by its results rather than by its contract.
